Blast Drug Project
Inverness

Blast Drug Project is based at 94 Church Street, Inverness.
The project, which has been in operation since 1997, has established itself as a well respected and used service accessed by people from throughout the Highlands

Blast is primarily a young persons drug project, working with people between the ages of 11-30. However, we do not believe in strictly adhering to this age range and welcome people of any age who wish to access our service. By offering people the opportunity to access up-to-date, factual information, Blast aims to empower them through enabling them to make an informed choice, based on individual attitudes and beliefs.

Blast provides a number of services, all of which are covered by our confidentiality policy. The four main areas of service we provide are:

  • DROP-IN INFORMATION CENTRE This service can be accessed by anybody requiring information or simply wanting a cup of coffee and a chat with staff. Members of staff are available to help people explore the contents of literature dealing with substance related issues. the drop-in information centre is open at the following times:

Monday: 1pm - 5.15pm, open to everyone
Wednesday: 1pm - 5.15pm, open to young parents
Thursday: 1pm - 5.15pm, open to everyone
Tuesday and Friday people can make appointments to speak with staff about specific issues. We will also be running a variety of workshops and taster sessions on some Friday afternoons.

Staff are available between 10am and 5.15pm daily, appointments not necessary

  • DRUG AWARENESS RAISING Blast has shown that young people, parents and professionals have need of a service that provides drug awareness raising, training, information and support concerning substance use and related issues, both as individuals and as part of community groups.
  • DANCE EVENT AND CLUB WORK We target such events, providing relevant information in the form of postcards, leaflets and posters.
  • OUTREACH WORK By working from our outreach vehicle we are able to reach young people who would not normally be able to access our service due to circumstances and/or geography. We can attend Highland games, community events as well as schools and youth clubs throughout the Highlands.

Blast takes referrals from Social Work and Education as well as self-referrals and can provide one-to-one support for clients. Appointments can be made outwith the opening hours of the information centre if this is more convenient. BLAST! will also advocate for clients in areas such as housing, criminal courts and finance.
