Situated as it suggests on the Royal Mile, half way between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse this traditional watering hole has just been fully refurbished and offers a comfortable setting to enjoy a meal, have a coffee or a drink.

Family owned, the tavern now boasts a wide-ranging clientele with the families of regulars and visitors alike enjoying the craic, great food, coffees and fine malt whisky.

Families with children are also welcome but the law in Scotland states only until 8.00pm.

Great Food with Traditional and Continental Influences

Choose from a wide variety of choices from our main menu. Everything from breakfast at weekends to the traditional Sunday roast dinner and a wide choice of vegetarian dishes ensure we cater for all tastes. Enjoy our version of Scotland's famous Haggis dish to which we have added our very own recipe malt whisky and cream sauce, or the continental influences with Italian Lasagna Verde, Curries from India and our Mexican Chilli Beef. Our specials board is updated daily and provides an even wider choice for the discerning diner.

Children are welcome at the Royal Mile Tavern with their very own menu, which offers a main course, sweet, and also a draught mineral drink of their choice for an all inclusive price.

A Royal Mile Choice of Malts

Arguably the finest choice of malt whisky on the Mile with over 100 malts on display in our bar. Let us take you on a trip from the Lowlands to Speyside and the Highlands finally arriving on the Islands all from the comfort of your chair and our expert help in choosing a malt to suit your taste.

Why not join us for a malt tasting evening where you will be given an insight into the history of malt whisky distilling in Scotland, shown how to drink the malt and experience a sample from each of the whisky regions.

The evening will end with a small taste of Haggis, Neaps and Tatties with the opportunity to purchase a range of malts at a reasonable price or perhaps a malt whisky tasting glass as a memento of the evening.

Five nights of great live music each week.

  • Monday starts the programme with a gentle mix of contemporary folk with Scottish, Irish, American and Canadian influences supplied by the lads and lassies of Delta Croft Review.
  • Wednesday is Traditional night with Graeme E. Pearson and his mix of guitar, banjo, mandolin and "moothie" music, and a selection of tales and jokes that will keep you amused.
  • On Friday we have Dave and Duncan who provide a great range of song to really get the weekend going.
  • Saturday sees a variety of great local musicians providing the entertainment with a mix of rhythm, rock and easy listening songs.
  • To round off the weekend on Sunday we have an open mike session where you the customer provide the song ably assisted by Dave and Duncan providing the background music

Function Suite

Our comfortable and beautifully formed dining room can also be booked for private parties, meetings or functions catering for up to 30 guests.
